An Overview:
The Master of Arts in English offers three majors: Literature, Language, and ELT & Applied Linguistics. The literature concentration emphasizes research and the application of various critical approaches to problems in literature and composition. The language concentration emphasizes the skills and techniques of English Language. The Applied Linguistics and ELT concentration are primarily designed for those who hold or expect to hold positions of responsibility in the teaching of English Language.
The Master of Arts in English Literature/Language/ELT and Applied Linguistics has been designed for two types of students:
A-type: Students having graduation from any discipline are eligible to apply. Students have to complete the Pre-requisite courses before the required and specialization courses. The duration of the total program is 2 (two) years.
B-type: Students having Bachelor degree in English are waived pre-requisite courses. The duration of the total program is 1 (one) year.
Career Opportunities:
The program opens a variety of career opportunities for graduates in the fields of teaching, media, communication, education government and non-government organizations. They can also develop interesting future careers as broadcasters, advertising executives, writers, translators and executives.
Admission Requirements:
Students seeking admission to the Master's program must have minimum CGPA 2.5 in Bachelor Degree in English Literature/Language/Applied Linguistics/TEFL/ TESL/TESOL or an equivalent degree from an approved university.
For all foreign certificates, the University as per rules of Bangladesh Government will determine equivalence.
Degree Requirements:
The MA degree requirements are as follows:
(a) Completion of 36-60 Credits
(b) Completion of the thesis with at least a `C+’ grade (6.0 Credits)
(c) Passing of all courses individually and maintaining a minimum CGPA of 3.00
Curriculum:
A student under normal work load will have 12 Credits per semester for these graduate programs. The Credits for these programs are divided into two areas:
- Core Courses and
- Elective Courses.
